Hadex FAQ's

Do you have a question about our Hadex® disinfection product? You may just find the answer on this page, on which you will find the most common questions from our clients regarding Hadex® application, shelf life, dosage etcetera.

Looking for technical specifications or product data sheets? You'll find these as well as additional, general information on the Hadex product page.

Q: Where can I find an overview of Hadex® stockpoints?

A: Click here to visit our Contact page, with information about our worldwide stock points

Q: Is it possible to combine a UV installation with Hadex® chlorination?

A: Hadex® will be slightly less effective (fotolyse) when combined with UV systems. In a UV system, dosing and energy values are relatively low, so this loss will hardly be measurable. Read more about our UV systems on the related product page.

Q: We’re not measuring any Hadex® concentration in the water at our tap points; how is this possible?

A: Different scenario’s may be possible here. For example, you may be measuring incorrectly, or active coal filters may have absorbed the Hadex® fluids in your water. Please also check the Hadex can you've used: has it perhaps passed its shelf date? If you're unsure, feel free to contact us with your questions, so we can help and advise you.

Q: We’ve added Hadex® to our water supply, but now our vessel smells like a swimming pool! What have we done wrong?

A: What may well be happening here, is that your fresh water supply was severely fouled and Hadex is reacting accordingly. Due to this strong action, a chlorine smell may be released which you could associate with a swimming pool scent. In this instance, it is imperative you do not adjust your Hadex® dosage! We advise you to continue the treatment; the typical smell will decrease eventually.

However, if you suspect you may have used the wrong dosage and added too much Hadex®, then please contact us for advice.

Q: Is Hadex® expensive?

A: 1 liter of Hadex® can be used for 50.000 liters of drinking water, which translates into 0.5 cents per liter. In terms of disinfection, Hadex® is therefore a much cheaper alternative for ATA or CTGB approved biocides such as peroxides, as the Hadex dosage is much lower.

Q How can I perform a shock treatment?

A: All information about the shock treatment procedure can be found in our quick guide, which you can request here (in PDF).

Q: In which conditions do I need to store my Hadex® supply in order to ensure its maximum shelf life?

A: Hadex® should be kept indoors, in a cool and dry (dark) area. If stored at temperatures below 25°C, it can be stored for up to 1.5 years without losing its effectiveness. If stored in really cool termperatures (t = < 6 °C) it will even keep for up to 3 years.

Q: How strong a dose should I use for Hadex?

A: Dosing regulations differ per flag state. Below please find the general, internationally recommended dosing advice:

  • Regular dosage

1 litre Hadex® : 50,000 litres of drinking water intended for the treatment of water that is
clear and of a normal quality.

  • Extra dosage

1 litre Hadex® : 25,000 litres of drinking water intended for the treatment of water that is
     of inferior or doubtful quality.

  • High dosage (shock treatment)

1 litre Hadex® : 5,000 litres of drinking water intended to be used under epidemic conditions and/or when it is suspected that the water might be infected. High dosage should also be applied as an initial treatment for the disinfection of tanks and pipelines after repairs or renewals

Q: What should the optimal value be at my measuring points?

A: Between 0,2-0,8 mg/l

!  in case of Legionella control: at least 0,5 m/l/

Q: Can I please speak to Mr. Hadex®?

A: A common mistake! However, Hadex® is not a person but a Hatenboer-Water brand-name for our water disinfecting product.

Q: What is the time limit for returning Hadex® ?

A: Hadex® should be returned within three months of the production date.  This date can be found on the label at the back of the packaging.

Q: Can Hadex® be used to prevent or combat Legionella?

A: Yes, in order to do so please follow our “shock treatment” procedure. For further support, please contact our water quality department.

Q: How can I add Hadex® to my water supply in the most effective way?

A: Hadex® can be added to your drinking water supply manually or by automatic dosing with either a dosing unit or inline measuring equipment.
