ALP reduces plastic with a fresh drinking water station

While recently supervising maintenance works on an ALP vessel in Singapore, Vessel Support Manager Sander Bergakker was amazed to see plastic waste accumulating in the harbour area of the clean city. Local authorities indicated ‘foreign waste’ from visiting vessels are not covered by their cleaning duties, which prompted him to organise a beach and dock clean-up action.     

During his initiative, Sander and his fellow cleaners scooped up an incredible number of single use water bottles – a common drinking water provision on any kind of vessel. Soon after, he spoke to Hatenboer-Water about filtration systems for safe drinking water and our new water bottle stations aimed at reducing plastic bottles on board.

“We just started a pilot exploring alternative water drinking provisions on board and this fits right into our mission. Supplying our crew with fresh and filtered drinking water is an essential provision and doing so with a maritime water station is simply a smart alternative to the traditional plastic bottles. Using their own refillable bottles, everyone on board will help reduce plastic pollution every day!” 

ALP Maritime has by now ordered drinking water stations for their fleet.
